Were you blessed to have a Mammie spirit in your life? I made this blog as an ode to the MAMMIE spirit that is in my bloodline. It is a way to honor, and share the lessons that have been passed down generation to generation.
Our first lesson from MAMMIE… Your home, car, your temple should be kept clean; as this is first healing & inspiring space…
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own.”
- 1 Corinthians 6:19
(Remember I do use the Bible in my teachings, but to me it is truly “the hitchhikers guide to the universe, full of stories that we can all use and relate too. It is also more figurative than literal. I also speak in energy. I do not tell you what to believe. So where I use the term God you can actually replace that with the universe, spirit, nature whatever you choose.)
Back to the message…
“Cleanliness is next to godliness” what does this mean? My Mammie used to say this to me almost religiously. It wasn’t until I was much older that I took heed and truly understood the potency of these words.
If you had a grandma, mammie, big mama or an older person in your life; then you know they did not play about keeping the home and body clean.
I remember my mammie waking me every Saturday morning for a deep house cleaning. Kitchen and bathrooms were cleaned daily because that’s where we ate and kept our physical temples clean.
On Saturdays, we always swept from the back to the front of the house, to push that dirt outward. Sometimes we would make a huge fire on the side of the house and burn things to get rid of them; and the negative energy that surrounded them. Little did I know she was teaching me to release, and what I would later know it to be called - a fire ceremony. She would say “when demons bother you and you can’t get rid of them, ‘you burn it’”. We would ritualistically wash the walls, floors and baseboards with ammonia or pine to further clear any negative energy. Sometimes she would even add a cap of ammonia to our bath water.
On our cleaning days we also always had some loud good ‘ol music playing. We brought the spirit of joy into our home. From there we would relax, practice self care, do our hair, eat a good super, watch a movie possibly as a family and have Bible study to prepare for church on Sunday.
From a young age my Mammie was teaching me ritualistic cleaning and cleansing. Let me tell you… spells are cool, but spells often do not last and are sometimes done for quick, selfish reasons. Rituals on the other hand are when you begin to live in and with spirit on the daily. IMO ritualistic living is way cooler, it is a type of magick that is always present. When you live by ritual you stay ready!
Ritual purification was very important in worship of the Divine. God required his people to be a pure and holy nation (Exodus 19:6). So in the Bible, Cleanliness was also closely linked to holiness according to the Old Testament.
Holiness had to be reflected in the way they lived, unlike all the other nations, God gave his people specific instructions concerning hygiene and cleanness. He also showed them how to maintain purity, and what to do to regain it if they lost it through carelessness or disobedience.
Jesus further made it clear that men are defiled by what is in their hearts, so it is not enough to just be clean outwardly. Godliness is not attained by what we eat or don’t eat or by how often we wash our hands (Matthew 7:18-23).
When you clean up your house, clean up your aura, and keep your heart pure it is as close to “God” or your higher consciousness, as you can get. This is what Mammie was teaching me all those years, how to live in my god-body. She was teaching me to keep my temple in optimal shape using self love and self care.
I still use her lessons today. When I’m feeling distant, stagnant or “just not right” my number one go to is to try clearing up the negative energy in my home, car and my aura; it usually does the trick. Sometimes you may even need to move the furniture around, burn some shit… to break up stagnant energy.
Also this was a day about releasing, clearing and giving. I learned to stop hoarding, to get rid of clutter, old tattered clothes and furniture. I was taught there are certain spirits that will not bless these types of things. We always got rid of old things, some we donated, which taught me to give and make way for new. Some others we threw away, and others as mentioned above we burned. It truly helps you to get out of that poverty mindset holding onto things that are no good any longer. My Mammie would always splurge on what was necessary and we never lacked in the abundance that flowed into our household.
Bonus tip:
"Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow." ~ Psalm 51:7
Try making your own wash with spring water, hyssop, pine oil, ammonia and sea salt, use it around your home and even to clean and wash your walls etc.
Or as pictured above use Castile soap, salt, baking soda, fresh citrus and essential oils for your intentions. You can use this for your home or your body.
A YouTube video I did on cleansing your body and home. Let’s CLEANSE for the NEW YEAR TIME! It’s Time To Air Out YOUR LIFE!
